About OMN

Open Mindfulness Now has been created 100% by Brenda Bentley (go me!). The course was originally created to help participants who missed a date of the group courses she teaches to not miss out on the learning. At that time, she offered free catch-ups and frankly, it was taking up a lot of time! Since Brenda was unable to clone herself many times over to keep up with the demand, this course was born.

The creation of this course has been a labour of love albeit a steep learning curve. Brenda is responsible for all the course content – including the recording & web development (whew!). With the growing demand of mindfulness courses, it’s makes sense to her to have something that is far reaching and can bring mindfulness to all. The course demonstrates her quirky and engaging teaching style and she hopes in that way, is relatable and enjoyable to practice.

Brenda is of course certified to teach and deliver mindfulness based approaches and is a fully qualified psychotherapist with all the bells and whistles you’d expect like public liability insurance. She figures she has been in private practice helping clients with Mindfulness Based Approaches for over 10 years now! In her therapy practice, she blends psychotherapy approaches with mindfulness and self compassion with great results. She has taught group courses for the last six years, resulting in over 1,000 direct teaching hours with groups and individuals to date.

It’s worth mentioning that Brenda has valued daily practice of mindfulness and has for over 12 years. She’s the first to admit she’d be a bit loopy without it having recovered from anxiety and PTSD. Brenda experiences give her a direct understand of these challenges and how to approach difficulty with kindness and humour.

Brenda has successfully completed her mindfulness teacher training and is a teacher trainee in Mindfulness Self Compassion (MSC). Her training and research represents over 500 hours at present through UCSD Mindfulness-based Professional Training Institute, Oxford Mindfulness Centre, Bangor University’s Centre for Mindfulness Research & Practice and University of Aberdeen where she is currently undertaking the MSc in Mindfulness Studies.

We are proud to say that Brenda meets the requirements of the Good Practice Guidance for Teaching Mindfulness-Based Courses published by the UK Network of Mindfulness-Based Teacher Trainers.

In addition, she has an trained with some really fantastic teachers like, Chris Germer, Kristen Neff, Steve HickmanMark Williams at the Mindfulness Centre at the University of Oxford. She is currently pursuing a Masters Degree MSc in Mindfulness through the University of Aberdeen and undertaking continued professional development through the Mindfulness Association and Bangor University.
